Healing Instructions for Tattoos:

1. It is important to keep in mind that you have a fresh, permanent tattoo and you need to take care of it. The better you take care of it the better it will look and feel.

2. Remove your bandage one to two hours after it was first bandaged.

3a. If you are going to shower.

Place a heavy film of A&D ointment over the tattoo; this will help to water proof it. Shower but keep the tattoo away from direct contact with water. Lightly wash the tattoo with water and anti-bacterial liquid soap on your fingertips in a circular motion. Then, rinse and get out of the shower. Dry the tattoo with a clean cloth in a dabbing motion. Do not wipe or you will pull ink out of the tattoo! Let air dry for 20 minutes, then apply a small amount of A&D ointment and rub it in so that it appears to shine.

3b. If you are not going to shower.

Lightly wash the tattoo with water and anti-bacterial liquid soap on your fingertips in a circular motion. Dry the tattoo with a clean cloth in a dabbing motion. Do not wipe or you will pull ink out of the tattoo! Let air dry for about 20 minutes. Then, apply a small amount of A&D ointment and rub it in so that appears to shine. We strongly recommend that you do shower!!!

4. Optional? 

Bandage tattoo right before going to sleep with a plastic barrier such as saran wrap. Remove immediately after waking. Clean and apply A&D as instructed in Step 3 a/b. Bandaging will act as a protective skin, and keep the sheets from sticking to the tattoo. Do not bandage for more than the first two nights!

5. Use A&D ointment at least five times a day or whenever it feels dry.  A&D should be used for three to five days then switch to a good, non-scented lotion such as Lubriderm or Curel; both are hypoallergenic.

Remember that the body art you receive is permanent and although not common, there could be possible side effects; such as scarring, allergic reaction, or possibly infection. Remember that the after care of your tattoo directly effects the way it will heal!

After your tattoo is healed in three to four weeks, use sun screen whenever out in the sun.
